Rendezvous in Uwharrie

A break from your traditional overlanding/offroad event, Appalachian Rendezvous put on by American Adventurist, is a family event that puts emphasis on people and relationships rather than merchandise and sales.  Located in the small town of Eldorado, NC, on the beautiful property of the Uwharrie Off-road training center, this event is one for the books and by far, one of our favorite events to attend.  From the awesome people who organized the event and the attendees, to the outstanding trail network and let us not forget the famous Tim Bleau's clam chowder and dutch oven desserts at the potluck, nothing can beat it.

Appalachian Rendezvous has a lot going for it:

1) Very affordable and charitable - free camping on the property, all you pay for is getting there, an RSVP fee for each vehicle, and a cash donation upon arrival in which all proceeds are donated right back to the small unincorporated community of Eldorado located in Montgomery County, NC.  In 2016, when we attended, the proceeds paid for the installation and equipment for internet to be installed in the community center which was built in the 1950s.  Prior years, they purchased new furniture for the community center.

2) Family reunion - limited RSVP slots allows for a family like atmosphere and experience.  Not overly packed and plenty of room to relax and enjoy. Great Thanksgiving style potluck to close the event on the final evening.

3) Learning opportunity - training courses and an outstanding network of trails and obstacles guided by the Overland Experts

4)  Variety of fun - off-roading, mountain biking, paddling, canoeing, exploring the Uwharrie National Forest, downtime to just relax, talk story, take in the views, or converse over each other's rigs, dutch oven contest, raffle drawing

The event is coming up on its 4th annual rendezvous and it is not something you want to miss if you haven't been or even if you have.  Mark your calendars for September 22-24, 2017 and RSVP on americanadventurist.com!  Unfortunately, we can't make it this year to report back due to Britt having school, but check it out and hopefully will see you at another event soon!
