Thomas, WV

Thomas, WV, as well as it's neighboring town of Davis, WV are two of our favorite places to escape from the DMV.  Former coal towns in Tucker County, these two small towns just 3 hours west of DC, have a lot to do and see around them including:  Canaan Loop, Blackwater Falls State Park (which offers awesome snow tubing in the winter), Douglas Falls (a hidden treasure along the old coal road), Camp 70 road, FR 18, Dolly Sods National Wilderness, White Grass Country Skiing/snowshoeing, and plenty of other forest roads to explore.  Not too far is also Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob.  There are some great eateries between the two towns including Sirianni's Pizza Cafe, Hell Benders, Tip Top Coffee, Flying Pigs, Mountain State Brewery, and the famous Purple Fiddle.  It doesn't matter what time of year, this area is a 4 season escape from our Nation's Capital. As far as accommodations and places to stay, most of the time we either camp or we stay with Joy at one of her places:  The Cooper House (a Bed and Cocktail) or The Billy Motel and Bar.  No matter what you do or where you stay, this area is a must to see.
