Frank's Diner

By Topher

Frank's Diner, nestled in the old part of downtown Kenosha, is home of the garbage plate challenge and was started as a railroad flat car in 1926 that was pulled into town by 6 horses.  Today, it is voted one of the top places to eat in Kenosha for multiple years in a row and has been featured on many food network shows.  We actually first heard about it on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.  It is an old-fashioned American diner car serving mostly breakfast including the popular garbage plates that consist of hash browns, 5 eggs, veggies, choice of up to 3 meats, and cheese.  Frank's is a bit of a challenge to get into on the weekends: the first time, we attempted to come, we severely underestimated how busy it was, mainly due to the size of the cozy rail car and it's limited seating.  Due to the extended wait time and to liven up the mood, they were giving out free tequila shots to those waiting in line.  How cool is that!  Unfortunately, our schedule that day did not allow adequate time needed to be seated, so we marked it as a place to come back to.

Our second trip here was during the week and much more successful, we started out Britt's birthday with brunch by splitting half a garbage plate with bacon, sausage, onions, mushroom, and mozzarella cheese, and also got one of their homemade cinnamon rolls (Britt dropped my cellphone in the gooey goodness of the cinnamon roll while trying to take a photo of it) and it filled the two of us. It was quite tasty!

With a nostalgic atmosphere and great food, this place is definitely worth the wait and something you should check out if your schedule allows.
