As many of you know, Zippo has a rich, long history in good quality products and loyalty (with their lifetime guarantee).  Founder George G. Blaisdell began Zippo in the early 1930s with an Austrian-made lighter and today, it is owned by his grandson George B. Duke, and now has a diverse product line including their awesome, reusable, refillable hand warmers.  The Zippo hand warmer is like a portable furnace that fits in your pocket.  If you are one of those people that love the Hot Hands pouches, you will never turn back to them if you try the Zippo hand warmer.  Through combustion of the fluid, we have found that it has provided up to 15 hours of warmth!  Its long run time is great unless you only need it for a short period of time.  Once it is lit, there is no safe way to put it out.  You have to let it run its course and burn up all of the fuel.

 It worked especially well when I tossed it in the bottom of my sleeping bag down by my feet keeping me nice and toasty the whole night.  It runs off of Zippo lighter fluid (supposedly odorless, maybe if you aren’t pregnant with heightened senses) and comes with an “easy fill” container.  You fill the container to the fill line, pull off the burner cover and pour that into the warmer over the cotton-like material, after allowing it to soak in a bit, just light the burner.  Once it is glowing or after about 10 seconds of flame, you can blow out the flame or eventually it will go out on its own and you then have your catalytic heat source.  We found it worked best when you let it sit out in the open for a good 10 minutes or so before slipping it back into its fuzzy pouch.  It takes approximately 15-20 minutes before reaching its maximum temperature.  If you put one in each pocket, you are set for the night. Over all it has been a great addition to our winter camping kit.
